Potatoes and Gravy
Ingredients
- 6 white potatoes (not Idaho)
- Flour (for coating)
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- Oil (for frying)
- Water (to make gravy)
- Optional: Milk (to thin gravy if needed)
Preparation
- Peel and slice the potatoes.
- Place the potatoes in a bowl and sprinkle with enough flour to coat.
- Mix well to ensure all slices are coated.
Cooking
- Heat oil in a skillet (electric skillet works best).
- Add the coated potatoes to the skillet.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Brown the potatoes lightly (do not let them get dark).
- Add enough water to cover the potatoes.
- Turn heat down and simmer until potatoes are tender.
- If the gravy becomes too dry, add some milk or additional water as needed.
Serving
- Serve hot as a side dish with meats, gravy, or as part of a hearty meal.
Tip: Electric skillets provide consistent heat and are ideal for simmering the potatoes without burning.
