Potatoes and Gravy

Potatoes and Gravy

Ingredients

  • 6 white potatoes (not Idaho)
  • Flour (for coating)
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • Oil (for frying)
  • Water (to make gravy)
  • Optional: Milk (to thin gravy if needed)

Preparation

  1. Peel and slice the potatoes.
  2. Place the potatoes in a bowl and sprinkle with enough flour to coat.
  3. Mix well to ensure all slices are coated.

Cooking

  1. Heat oil in a skillet (electric skillet works best).
  2. Add the coated potatoes to the skillet.
  3. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Brown the potatoes lightly (do not let them get dark).
  5. Add enough water to cover the potatoes.
  6. Turn heat down and simmer until potatoes are tender.
  7. If the gravy becomes too dry, add some milk or additional water as needed.

Serving

  • Serve hot as a side dish with meats, gravy, or as part of a hearty meal.

Tip: Electric skillets provide consistent heat and are ideal for simmering the potatoes without burning.
